Good Morning NOLA!  TGIF y’all. Through 2pm: Sunny with temperatures rising towards the low 80s. Winds NW at 5 to 10 mph. Plentiful sunshine. High 84F.  Our chance of rain in the Crescent City area is nada or absolutely none.  Like I always say, it never hurts to keep the umbrella handy just in case.   There is still lots going on in the city as usual.  Jazz Fest is here and the line-up looks awesome as usual. Don’t miss out. I hope you are making your weekend plans and it includes music.  The weather should cooperate so get out and enjoy.  The week ahead looks pretty good. Don’t worry about those scattered showers over the week ahead but all in all looks great. I will  be at the 1850′s House Store sigining books in a couple of weeks. It will be a double header book signing both Saturday and Sunday, May 14th and 15th. So make plans to come out a get your personalized copies of “I Love You Bigger Than The Sky!” and “IF I Were A French Quarter Rat”.  Whatever you decide to do today, enjoy! If I travel back and forth between 2 states do I need to change my driver license to that state every time?

I would hate to do that. I live in California but I’m temporarily in Louisiana to work with my aunt. I want to know if that would affect me trying to get an apartment in Louisiana or anything like that. But I do travel back and forth & would hate to have to change my license every time.

That is a tough situation. You are supposed to get a Louisiana license within 30 days of moving there. if you do not, and get stopped for any reason, you would have a problem. California is worse…they say you must get a CA license within 10 days of moving there! I don’t see any way around this. then there is the issue of your car insurance. They need to know too.
Edit: Just saw other answer and she has a good thought. If you maintain a home in CA all the time, then you are a CA resident. But, i was concerned that Louisiana would consider you a resident since you spoke of getting an apartment there. Once you do that, they may consider you a resident.

Can anyone from South Louisiana tell me how to make a gumbo with roux that you buy in a jar?

I am going to attempt to cook a duck, hen, and sausage gumbo for the first time and I’m not really sure how to do it. I’ve been looking for recipes online but all of them include how to make the roux from scratch. I just wanted to use Kary’s Dark Roux. Can anyone tell me how to make the gumbo with the Kary’s roux? Thanks.

All you have to do is put your jar roux in the pan first and start with you ingredients. Usually I make it from scratch, but you can put it in the pan and add the onions, bell pepper, celery and garlic. Sauté until the onions become translucent and the vegetables are tender. Usually we have beef cubes in ours to add flavor. But to answer your question just start out with it in the pan and heat it and go from there.

I know that in Quebec they got a law passed to preserve the French Language in 1997. In Quebec they have fought to keep their french identity ever since 1608.
