Louisiana Culinary Trails – Prairie Home Cooking

Home to one of the state’s oldest European settlements, central Louisiana serves up dishes that naturally reflect the diverse cultures that settled here. Food is an obsession in this part of the world and the love and attention that go into every dish — from the field to the table — is celebrated with every meal. Focusing on freshness, the mild climate and rich soils allow a wide variety of vegetables to be grown year round and the many bayous and rivers in addition to the close proximity to the Coast make seafood an important ingredient in this cuisine.

Sticky: Subrosan Casts Matthew Talbot As Miguel

New Orleans

There is always something happening in New Orleans. But now there is an anticipation in the streets and excitment in the air about something new and different for NOLA thrill seekers. The buzz is contagious and people are talking up a storm about the exciting new web series Subrosan set here in New Orleans.  You may have seen previous posts about the show everyone is waiting to see.  Just in recent weeks they have announced casting decisions on some crucial roles. Auditions have been set in New Orleans for the remaining five speaking roles and filming is about to begin on the first episode.  One such announcement is that of Matthew Talbot in the role of Miguel.  Check out the following press release on Matthew and visit www.Subrosan.com for the skinny on the talented cast of characters and the roles they play in this thrilling ride through the twists and turns of the New Orleans French Quarter and the Subrosan culture.

by Sharon Denise Talbot

What the producers said:  The producers of Subrosan are thrilled to announce that Matthew Talbot has been cast in the role of Miguel for the debut season.

The complex role of Miguel requires physical gifts as well as strong acting skills. We feel Matt will deliver the goods as both an actor and as an impossibly cruel enforcer. We had some interesting meetings about the Miguel character – how do you cast a baby-faced murderer? When Matt stepped up for the role – taking on the language challenges and the complexities of his characters hopeless duality – we knew we had a winner.

You can learn more about Matthew Talbot and his role as Miguel on his feature page.

“Miguel es un hombre peligroso”
“‘Cause he’s a dangerous man. He’s got blood in his plans
Better watch out where you stand, ‘Cause he’s a dangerous man
He’ll make you believe that he’s your friend, But don’t forget it’s just pretend
And he’s a dangerous man….. ”   Trust No One… Believe Nothing

Matthew Talbot is a man of many hats and looking to Matthew Talbot is Migueladd a few more to his collection. This former football and golf athlete as well as a soccer standout is a recent graduate of Iowa High School and will be attending the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in the fall in Pre-Pharmacy.

Matt already holds his certification as a Pharmacy Tech and is in the Honors program at ULL. He will be pursuing a business degree before finishing up his Doctor of Pharmacy degree. Following his parents to New Orleans after graduation Matt has discovered the film industry in what is now known as Hollywood South.

Always looking for the next challenge, his new goal is to make the leap from background and stand-in to serious acting. Matt is very social and outgoing and thrives on the energy of being on set. While school comes first and he is not looking to be famous, when he looks back on his life he wants to be able to say “I did what I set out to do.”

Join us for Subrosan. You’ll be changed forever.

Keep your eyes open New Orleans.  Trust No One…. Believe Nothing…..

New Year’s Eve Kicks Off Regular Musical Line-up in Newly Reopened Carousel Bar and Lounge

Tuesday through Saturday night entertainment starts January 2012 at Hotel Monteleone

New Orleans, LA – With the New Year comes a brand new line-up of fresh musical entertainment in the famous, newly reopened Carousel Bar and Lounge in the Hotel Monteleone. The nightly entertainment kicks off on New Year’s Eve at 9 p.m. with Luther Kent, a New Orleans jazz favorite, and includes well-known artists and newcomers on the scene every Tuesday through Saturday night in January and beyond.

All the musical entertainment is free and open to the public. The 2012 line-up features a rotation of well-known New Orleans artists, Hotel favorites and special guests including Robin Barnes & Band, the Luther Kent Quartet, Lena Prima & Band, Eudora Evans & Band and the George French Jazz Quartet. Of special note, it honors the Hotel’s past as Lena Prima’s father, Louis Prima, played regularly at the Hotel back in the mid-1960s.

The Carousel Bar’s new lounge area reopened on December 30 after undergoing a renovation, which included adding expansive windows along Royal Street, enhanced décor and a secondary stationery bar. The current furnishings in the bar and lounge are temporary and will be replaced with new furniture to complete the renovation.

“Because the Carousel Bar is such an iconic part of the Hotel Monteleone, we were very careful during the renovation process to enrich without detracting from the atmosphere that patrons love,” said Andrea Thornton, director of sales and marketing for the Hotel Monteleone. “In addition to physical enhancements, we also focused on the Carousel Bar’s musical entertainment by welcoming industry veteran Marie Long to our team.”

Recently appointed director of entertainment for the Hotel Monteleone, Marie Long will be in charge of booking regular entertainment for the famous Carousel Bar and Lounge. With more than 36 years of experience in the music industry, Long has worked with national and local talents, including The DUKES of Dixieland, Chicago, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin and Tony Bennett, among others. Before forming Extravaganzas, Inc., her own music production company in 1992, Long worked with Pete Fountain Productions and Ray Bloch Productions.

“I’m ecstatic to be working with the Hotel to introduce a variety of entertainment into the newly renovated Carousel Lounge,” said Long. “We are featuring classic jazz artists and legendary R&B singers to brand new on-the-scene talent. We plan on celebrating music legends and creating new ones right here on the corner of Royal and Iberville Streets in the Carousel Bar and Lounge.”

GRITtv: Courtney Young: BP Threatens Louisiana Culture

We may now have reached a period of national and global fatigue over the havoc wreaked by the spill. But as someone from Louisiana, I can attest that the disaster is very much pulsating through the daily lives of millions of people in the area. Though Louisiana is not the only place affected, it was certainly one of the most hardest hit by the disaster. Even after the hole is plugged, the damage done will last for decades, generations. A complete way of life, culture is under attack and it’s vital that we, as a nation, do not lose our sense of commitment to one of the most vital cultural traditions in the United States.
