Good Morning NOLA!  Here comes the sun!   But don’t let it fool you, the high for today is only 43.  Brrrr!  Tomorrow won’t get us out of the forties either with lows below freezing tonight and tomorrow.  Take the necessary precautions.  remember the three “P’s” .Be sure to protect plants, pets, and pipes! Bundle up if you are heading out doors.  There are people to see, places to go and things to do.  For you home bodies planning on stayng in, go ahead and get that soup or big pot of gumbo going.  You will be glad to have when the temperature starts dropping tonight. While you are stirring the pot at least open the blinds at let some of that beautiiful sunshine in. Soak it up while we have it.  My plan is to start that soup, but I’m not staying in today.  The beginning of next week brings showers and scattered thunderstorms, but the upside is it also brings a little bit warmer temps our way.   Have a great day!  I’ll see you in NOLA!

Good Morning NOLA!  It’s going to be a hot one today. By this afternoon we will reach near record  high in the  eighties.  Only a twenty percent chance of rain in the forecast today but our chances increase over the weekend.  By Monday of next week we will see a forty percent chance.  The forecast is showing a twenty percent chance of showers for Saturday and Sunday. It is only suppose to be isolated thunder storms but be prepared. Tuesday looks like it will start a few days of rain for the Big Easy.  I will have the umbrella at the ready but there is plenty of cover in the Quarter. What’s a little rain after all. So don’t let that keep you from coming out to the French Quarter to see me at the 1850’s House Store.  I will be signing my latest book “If I Were A French Quarter Rat” and also  “I Love You Bigger Than The Sky!”  Whatever you decide to do today, enjoy! See y’all in NOLA!

Good Morning Nola!  I am so glad our weekend is finally here.  I just spent two fun but long days on the set of Looper, a futuristic movie starring Bruce Willis set in the New Orleans CBD.  Iam ready to get back out in the Quarter and enjoy some Mardi gras festivities.  It’s partly cloudy this morning with our high of seventy-five.  There is only a twenty percent chance of rain today and tomorrow.  Monday will bring with it a fifty-fifty chance so I would keep the umbrella handy.  This mild weather sure has the people out and about in the French Quarter in droves.  Parades and normal Quarter fun is on my agenda for the weekend.  There is a strong possibility that I will be catching flying Mardi Gras beads in the near future also.  Well my running buddies are waiting so I need to wrap this up so I can get out there.  Y’all have fun and I hope you catch lots of beads too.

I’ll see you in NOLA!

New Year’s Eve Kicks Off Regular Musical Line-up in Newly Reopened Carousel Bar and Lounge

Tuesday through Saturday night entertainment starts January 2012 at Hotel Monteleone

New Orleans, LA – With the New Year comes a brand new line-up of fresh musical entertainment in the famous, newly reopened Carousel Bar and Lounge in the Hotel Monteleone. The nightly entertainment kicks off on New Year’s Eve at 9 p.m. with Luther Kent, a New Orleans jazz favorite, and includes well-known artists and newcomers on the scene every Tuesday through Saturday night in January and beyond.

All the musical entertainment is free and open to the public. The 2012 line-up features a rotation of well-known New Orleans artists, Hotel favorites and special guests including Robin Barnes & Band, the Luther Kent Quartet, Lena Prima & Band, Eudora Evans & Band and the George French Jazz Quartet. Of special note, it honors the Hotel’s past as Lena Prima’s father, Louis Prima, played regularly at the Hotel back in the mid-1960s.

The Carousel Bar’s new lounge area reopened on December 30 after undergoing a renovation, which included adding expansive windows along Royal Street, enhanced décor and a secondary stationery bar. The current furnishings in the bar and lounge are temporary and will be replaced with new furniture to complete the renovation.

“Because the Carousel Bar is such an iconic part of the Hotel Monteleone, we were very careful during the renovation process to enrich without detracting from the atmosphere that patrons love,” said Andrea Thornton, director of sales and marketing for the Hotel Monteleone. “In addition to physical enhancements, we also focused on the Carousel Bar’s musical entertainment by welcoming industry veteran Marie Long to our team.”

Recently appointed director of entertainment for the Hotel Monteleone, Marie Long will be in charge of booking regular entertainment for the famous Carousel Bar and Lounge. With more than 36 years of experience in the music industry, Long has worked with national and local talents, including The DUKES of Dixieland, Chicago, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin and Tony Bennett, among others. Before forming Extravaganzas, Inc., her own music production company in 1992, Long worked with Pete Fountain Productions and Ray Bloch Productions.

“I’m ecstatic to be working with the Hotel to introduce a variety of entertainment into the newly renovated Carousel Lounge,” said Long. “We are featuring classic jazz artists and legendary R&B singers to brand new on-the-scene talent. We plan on celebrating music legends and creating new ones right here on the corner of Royal and Iberville Streets in the Carousel Bar and Lounge.”

Since 1886, the Hotel Monteleone, www.hotelmonteleone.com, has proudly stood as one of the first landmarks in the famous French Quarter. The hotel is the Quarter’s largest full-service hotel, featuring 600 comfortable, luxurious guestrooms and suites. Hotel Monteleone is within walking-distance of some of New Orleans most famous attractions and is conveniently located 11 miles from the Louis Armstrong International Airport. Hotel Monteleone is a member of the Preferred Hotels® & Resorts, a consecutive AAA Four Diamond award-winner, and has won the J.D. Power and Associates Upscale Hotel Award for “An Outstanding Guest Experience.”

Good Mornng NOLA! Hope you had a great weekend. It’s Monday in the Big Easy.  It is back to work , school and a normal week.  Mardi Gras has come and gone and now lent has begun. The forecast shows a forty percent chance of rain for later this evening and tonight.  The high is in the mid seventies but cloudy.  We will see some sun on Tuesday and this should last for the week.  The next chance of rain is a week from today.  A week of mild weather, spring-like days and evenins sounds just fine to me. I could use some good news to brighten my outlook.  I am a little ‘under the weather” no pun intended, today. I don’t really have much focus or that much to say.  I am wishing all of you out there a very wonderful week ahead.  May the weather hold and you get to accomplish everything you set your mind and hands to do.   Maybe I’ll see you in NOLA.

Good Morning NOLA!  Happy Mardi Gras! Today might be a great day but not because of the weather.  While we are not experiencing the cold og past Mardi Gras years, it looks like our luck has run out.  The bright sunny days are on hold because we have rain coming in spurts with the heavier stuff moving in a little later today.  If you are on the parade route I hope you have all your rain gear.  Poncho’s, raincoats, boots, umbrellas to cover your Mardi Gras finery. Our hight today is seventy two but with the clouds and the rain I think that might be a stretch.  Everybody loves a parade but be responsible and keep an eye on the weather.  The rain will move out of town with the Mardi Gras crowds on Wednesday and we should have sunny days until the following Wednesday.  Here’s hoping.  Don’t foget my book signing on Saturday in Jackson Square.  Get your copy of “If I Were A French Quarter Rat” . Well, time to don my feather wig.  See you in NOLA!

Will Hurricane Gustav affect New Orleans sports teams at all?

Though Hurricane Gustav doesn’t appear to have caused as much damage as Hurricane Katrina, won’t this still affect sports teams. Regardless of if it directly hit the city of New Orleans it still did a lot of damage in areas outside the city. The Saints and Hornets fan base is all of Louisiana and probably some of Mississippi. Since these people probably won’t plan on shelling out money for tickets and team gear until they get their lives back in order and the city of New Orleans still struggling to get back to the way it was before Hurricane Katrina one must wonder whether this could be a disaster for the Saints and Hornets. Your thoughts?

Well the Superdome and Arena sustained no damage during Hurricane Gustav. The city suffered very little flooding this time. The Saints game scheduled for this weekend at the Superdome is still on, so I don’t think it will have an effect at all on Sports teams.
