Not all Indian Resevations welcome visitors and I want to go to a reservation on my vacation and learn something of their culture.I’m driving so I would prefer to be closer to Louisiana. I’ve been to Cherokee N. Carolina and really enjoyed the set up there. someone took us around and showed us around and explained thing as we went along. I would like to learn about the other nations as well. I have tried searching and am not too good at it, so I am at a loss. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank You
Try the Matta’poni Indian Reservation in King William County, Virginia. The Shaman is John Sun Eagle and his Wife Gentlewind. They are a lovely couple and they welcome all without making reservations..(small joke) but, seriously, they are great people! Check out the Mattaponi Reservation online, go to any search engine, yahoo, google, and you will find their site describing their reservation, history, ect..
The Chief is Chief Webster Little Eagle. We use to go every weekend to see them. They usually have other people there from all over the world. It is great, we are originally from new york city, and we have met people on his reservation from Ireland, France, Spain, Peru, England, it’s amazing how many connections you make from people that are interested in the Native American Indian Culture.
Try also yahoo’s search, type in John and Sharon Sun Eagle on Mattaponi Indian Reservation and see if they have another site up. They also sponsor kids from other Reservations.
If you ever really want to travel the distance, try heading toward the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota during the Summer time or during the "Gathering of the Nations" Pow Wow, all full bloods participate in that pow wow, it is beyond amazing!!
The Indians at Mattaponi will give you more information concerning other reservations you may visit and attend their pow wows. usually their schedules are online..just type in indian pow wows and the state you would like to visit.
I hope this info helps you out some.
Good luck on your next trip!
feel free to ask me about more info regarding the Res.

I am a struggling musician. I currently live in new orleans where music thrives through the city. I want to know how or what EXACTLY i have to do to legally perform on the streets for profit like, standing at a corner with the little hat and people throw change in it while i sing and play guitar/keyboard etc. i dont want to get arrested or have in trouble with the police so what can i do or what papers do i need specifically to do such? and how to or where to get the papers or whatever from?
get a permit from the police, and lie saying its for charity
I lived in Louisiana, and they have the best seafood ever, and cajun cooking. Now I live in Washington, and seafood is really big here too. Salmon the most.
Oh, I LOVE Carne Asada and Fish Tacos. I used to live in San Diego, and that’s the only place that has those (made right). And orange juliuses
I am a medical Marijuana patient in California traveling to Louisiana. Will Louisiana deny me my medicine?
Will I get in trouble if I am caught with medical marijuana?
Louisiana sees it as Marijuana.
And they do not like it – read overview the law http://norml.org/index.cfm?wtm_view=&Group_ID=4540
A smart patient knows how to travel and medicate with out running into Johnny Law.
If I travel back and forth between 2 states do I need to change my driver license to that state every time?
I would hate to do that. I live in California but I’m temporarily in Louisiana to work with my aunt. I want to know if that would affect me trying to get an apartment in Louisiana or anything like that. But I do travel back and forth & would hate to have to change my license every time.
That is a tough situation. You are supposed to get a Louisiana license within 30 days of moving there. if you do not, and get stopped for any reason, you would have a problem. California is worse…they say you must get a CA license within 10 days of moving there! I don’t see any way around this. then there is the issue of your car insurance. They need to know too.
Edit: Just saw other answer and she has a good thought. If you maintain a home in CA all the time, then you are a CA resident. But, i was concerned that Louisiana would consider you a resident since you spoke of getting an apartment there. Once you do that, they may consider you a resident.
The french culture has an impact on different parts of North America, such as the province of Quebec…?
The french culture has an impact on different parts of North America, such as the province of Quebec and the state of Louisiana. I need help of how to explain this. Highly appreciated 😛
I know that in Quebec they got a law passed to preserve the French Language in 1997. In Quebec they have fought to keep their french identity ever since 1608.
I live in MS right now..and I’ve always said I’m not staying here. Well I’m 21 and I’m ready to leave. I want to stay in the south though. I really like Louisiana and it seems like a cool place .. full of life and culture.
Louisiana is a great place to live, where are you looking at> Baton Rouge (where i live now) it a very nice place and Lafeyette is growing into the state’s best place to live, New Orleans (where i was born and raised) is great too don’t believe what other people say, i’m there almost every weekend, its not the same but its not a war zone either. it really depends on what u wanna do out here, there is a big need in the Medical field, the wanted ads section has almost a full page of medical jobs. you can probaly fidn a job in any field you want, or if you just wana party, whatever, you will find that here too, the culture is amazing. i would recommend coming and visiting for like a weekend whatever city or town you plan to move to, get a feel for the place.
You know like the Arizona Lizards, Louisiana Cajuns, etc.
Green Bay Packers – Indian Packing Company
Minnesota Vikings – 400% more immigrants from Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Finland settle in Minnesota
Milwaukee Brewers – Beer capital of the world
Minnesota Twins – Twin Cities
Dallas Cowboys – Texas Longhorns
Miami Dolphins – LOTS of dolphins there
New York Jets – First commercial jet service between New York and England
San Francisco 49ers – What they called people during the Gold Rush
Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Pirates used the port in Tampa
Pittsburgh Steelers – Steel capital of the world
Oakland Raiders – Also pirate reference, but relating to China
Seattle Seahawks – State bird
ANYWAY, I could go on, but this should make the point. Almost all teams have local names, but their meaning may have been lost over time. Hope it helps…Kes
I am in the military and have been stationed in Louisiana for three years now, I believe I still am a resident of California, but how do i become a legal resident of Louisiana? I just recently brought my brother to Louisiana as well and I am trying to obtain legal residency states on him so that I can file for guardianship of him here instead of having to travel back to California.
Most states require only that you have lived there for a certain amount of time, usually 6 to 12 months, but that will apply to your brother as well. Also, many states have an exception allowing military members to file such actions in the state they currently reside in, but you shouldn’t need the exception having been there this long. The exception might keep you from having to wait for your brother to be there long enough though.
You will need to contact a LA licensed attorney to be sure. Most attorneys in military areas are familiar with these things already.
If you have no plans to move back to Cali, you might need to change your residency status to LA with the military, just to ward off anything that might pop that you have not thought of. You should be able to do that right now on your own.
