Not sayin. But, good guesses….The real problem is that I could not have blamed this editor in the least if she had rejected my paper. Two “rejects ” and an “R and R” is a reject. In another incident, I was getting both Christianist and left field reviews, and I believe the editor solicited additional reviews (we wound up with SIX reviews). I think the poor editor new s/he had a good paper, and was searching for reviews that might match her own gut reaction. But, she never got them!
