Good Morning NOLA! Are you sure it is May? It’s a little chilly. Through 2pm today it will be sunny and windy. Abundant sunshine in store today. Our high is seventy-eight degrees. Winds northeast at 15 to 25 mph. It is windy this morning. We are experiencing near recordlow temps. Our chance of rain in the Crescent City area is only ten percent. Like I always say, it never hurts to keep the umbrella handy just in case. There is still lots going on in the city as usual. Jazz Fest is here and the line-up looks awesome as usual. Don’t miss out. I hope you are making your hump day plans and it includes music. The weather should cooperate so get out and enjoy. The week ahead looks pretty good. Don’t worry about those scattered showers over the week ahead but all in all looks great. I will be at the 1850′s House Store sigining books in a couple of weeks. I will let you know exact dates as I get them. So make plans to come out a get your personalized copies of “I Love You Bigger Than The Sky!” and “IF I Were A French Quarter Rat”. Whatever you decide to do today, enjoy! See y’all in NOLA!

New Year’s Eve Kicks Off Regular Musical Line-up in Newly Reopened Carousel Bar and Lounge
Tuesday through Saturday night entertainment starts January 2012 at Hotel Monteleone
New Orleans, LA – With the New Year comes a brand new line-up of fresh musical entertainment in the famous, newly reopened Carousel Bar and Lounge in the Hotel Monteleone. The nightly entertainment kicks off on New Year’s Eve at 9 p.m. with Luther Kent, a New Orleans jazz favorite, and includes well-known artists and newcomers on the scene every Tuesday through Saturday night in January and beyond.
All the musical entertainment is free and open to the public. The 2012 line-up features a rotation of well-known New Orleans artists, Hotel favorites and special guests including Robin Barnes & Band, the Luther Kent Quartet, Lena Prima & Band, Eudora Evans & Band and the George French Jazz Quartet. Of special note, it honors the Hotel’s past as Lena Prima’s father, Louis Prima, played regularly at the Hotel back in the mid-1960s.
The Carousel Bar’s new lounge area reopened on December 30 after undergoing a renovation, which included adding expansive windows along Royal Street, enhanced décor and a secondary stationery bar. The current furnishings in the bar and lounge are temporary and will be replaced with new furniture to complete the renovation.
“Because the Carousel Bar is such an iconic part of the Hotel Monteleone, we were very careful during the renovation process to enrich without detracting from the atmosphere that patrons love,” said Andrea Thornton, director of sales and marketing for the Hotel Monteleone. “In addition to physical enhancements, we also focused on the Carousel Bar’s musical entertainment by welcoming industry veteran Marie Long to our team.”
Recently appointed director of entertainment for the Hotel Monteleone, Marie Long will be in charge of booking regular entertainment for the famous Carousel Bar and Lounge. With more than 36 years of experience in the music industry, Long has worked with national and local talents, including The DUKES of Dixieland, Chicago, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin and Tony Bennett, among others. Before forming Extravaganzas, Inc., her own music production company in 1992, Long worked with Pete Fountain Productions and Ray Bloch Productions.
“I’m ecstatic to be working with the Hotel to introduce a variety of entertainment into the newly renovated Carousel Lounge,” said Long. “We are featuring classic jazz artists and legendary R&B singers to brand new on-the-scene talent. We plan on celebrating music legends and creating new ones right here on the corner of Royal and Iberville Streets in the Carousel Bar and Lounge.”

Good Morning NOLA! It is another beautiful spring like day. Hight today just nosing over the seventy degree mark with plenty of sun on this hump day. What a great week we have had so far and there is more to come. It looks like our overnight lows will stay in the fifties with sunny days in the seventies for the next several days. You won’t need the jacket today. I am mentally going through my closet and trying to think of what I can wear that will be right for this warm day but not too spring like. After all it is still February. No rain in the forecast until mid week next week and then it is just a few showers. Saturday starts the first parrade for the 2011 Mardi Gras season. What great weather to get things kicked off. I hope you have a wonderful Wednesday and the rest of your week is just as great. I know I will be soaking up this sunshine. See you in NOLA!

Good Morning NOLA! It’s cold and it’s wet! Yuck! I bet you didn’t need me to tell you that. The rain is here for the next couple of days and as cold as it is there is a chance for sleet and even possible snow. This is not the kind of weather you want to be out and about in. Personally my plans revolve around my bed and my couch for the next few days. The highs are barely getting out of the thirties if that. Our lows are staying in the thirties over night. Don’t forget to take care of the pipes, the pets and your peeps. It is cold out there. For you northern transplants out there it might be a joke to you but this is serious weather for us. We are not used to frozen rain or snowballs, unless it’s the kind you get from the snowball stand in the sweltering summer. Have a great day whatever your plans are and I’ll see you in NOLA! …. after it warms up .

Acme Oyster House
During the Lenten season abstinence from meat on Fridays is obligatory for all us “good Catholics” in Louisiana and elsewhere. Salt and freshwater species of fish, amphibians, reptiles and shellfish are permitted. So darn the luck, as Paw-Paw Benoit would say. What do we in the Bayou State during Lent? We eat even more seafood! If you are down in New Orleans during Lent (actually anytime of the year) and you are looking for seafood you have just hit the jackpot.
Some of the best seafood I have ever eaten was served up right here in the Crescent City. The problem is choosing at which wonderful eatery to pull up a chair or a stool. Fans consistently rank Acme’s oysters, seafood and atmosphere among the best in New Orleans and the country and they get my vote, too. Acme Oyster House has been around since1910. Louie Armstrong had not even started his first band and the Acme Café was opened on Royal Street in the French Quarter. Acme has long been a staple in the Big Easy restaurant pantry chock a block full of amazing cuisine. Because a horrible fire in 1924 caused the collapse of the three-story Acme Saloon building, the Café was re-opened as Acme Oyster House around the corner at 724 Iberville in the world famous French Quarter, just off of Bourbon Street.
In addition to the French Quarter location, Acme Oyster Houses are open in Covington, Metairie, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and in Sandestin on the Florida panhandle. Acme shucked well over 3.6 million fresh oysters in 2008. That’s almost 10,000 oysters a day and doesn’t even include the fried ones. Its neon sign is a beacon guiding the hungry by the droves. Locals and tourists a-like line up for some of the best New Orleans style seafood around and is a testament to this place in a city renowned for its food. Don’t let the line deter you it moves really fast! I suggest you order an Abita from the bar and hang tight. Your seat at a checkered tablecloth covered table is coming right up.
World famous for their ice cold oysters on the half shell, Acme has out done themselves with their version of char-grilled oysters. Grilled in the shell with garlic, butter and a sprinkling of parmesan cheese this is a treat for even the most oyster opposed of us. Trust me; I have brought many an anti-oyster visitor over from the dark side by offering this sizzling delicacy on a piece of New Orleans French bread. Just a side note, when the oyster is gone, dip your bread in the empty shell to get every drop of the buttery ambrosia left in the bottom! Cést Bon, Cher!
If the oysters won’t tempt you then check out Acme’s impressive menu. The fried catfish platter and the corn and crab soup may be just the thing for a Lenten supper. Of course, there is always hot seafood gumbo to chase away the chill of a cool day. No matter what you order you can’t go wrong. Stand in line at Acme. I promise, they aren’t going anywhere and it is well worth the wait!

Good Morning NOLA! Can you say “rain, rain, go away”? Sorry guys, but it’s not going anywhere. Atleast not until later tonight. We not only have thunderstorm warnings but we are under a tornado watch too. Temps will drop after the rain rolls through and our low tonight is forty-nine. The parades rolled anyway the rain came down. Endymion was moved to tomorrow and will roll with Bacchus. There is still lots to do, so don’t let a little rain stop you. I was soaked to the skin but still did my part to line the parade route. Hot boiled crawfish was my reward after. Along with a cold Abita Amber I think my day went very well in spite of the rain falling in sheets. Tomorrow is another day and should be a great one. No rain in the forecast and nice temps should make it perfect parade weather. I will be “playing” Mardi Gras on the new Nick Cage movie “Medallion” being filed in the Big Easy. It shouldn’t be too much of a stretch for me.

About Sharon Denise Talbot
Who says dreams don’t come true?
Sharon Denise Talbot is the oldest of Wilfred and Bernice LeJeune Ardoin‘s six children. This southwest Louisiana native once upon a time dreamed of things like love and marriage, writing books, acting and living in New Orleans. The love and marriage part came right after high school for Denise when she married Mark Talbot. They share almost thirty-two years of marriage with three children, three grandchildren and waiting on a fourth any day now. After years spent in the corporate arena and raising her children the impending arrival of her first grandchild, seemed like the perfect time for a change of pace. Coming from a family full of expressive, creative people certainly has its advantages. Denise decided to enlist the artistic/illustrating talent of her daughter Laura and dust off the dream of writing children’s books. Her first book “I Love You Bigger Than The Sky!” was published in March of 2010. “If I Were A French Quarter Rat” her second was released in February of this year and a third book “Ardoin the Ant” should be available in late November/early December.
About the same time as her first book hit the shelves, she launched her New Orleans website, www.whodatdodat.com and was introduced to the burgeoning film industry in New Orleans. After participating in more than 30 major film and television projects there is no doubt another dream has a check by it. Having the opportunity to play the part of Subrosan’s Peggy Elbertson opposite her real life husband Mark as the Senator and working with her son Matthew as Miguel in the same project is just icing on the cake. Moving down the check list, since Denise’s last chick left the nest for college in May the transition from part-time to full-time New Orleanians became a reality for the Talbots.
This French Quarter resident is now the author of children’s books, an online writer, blogger and website host, as well as an actor and movie extra. So the moral of this story is your life can be your dream. Or, in the words of George Eliot “It is never too late to become what we might have been….. “
Subrosan is coming New Orleans. Trust No One….. Believe Nothing…….
